Nicola Holden Designs – Contemporary Interior Designer, London.

Many apologies for the blog silence so far this year. 2015 has started incredibly busy, which is great, but doesn’t leave me much time for writing my blog.

I’ve noticed on Pinterest that so many of you have pinned this bathroom image, that I thought I’d better tell you all about it.

City Bathroom

The apartment in question in bang in the middle of the City of London, and this little en-suite bathroom was completely soul-less when I first saw it. The owner wanted me to create a glamorous shower room, with better use of space and a lot more storage! Here is a sneak peak of this bathroom – before and after.

Instead of having a small shower cubicle, with a towel heater beside it, we moved the towel heater to the other side of the bathroom, leaving enough space for a large shower cubicle. We also created a decorative niche in a false wall, providing storage for shampoo, etc. A built-in unit below the basin provides additional storage. The clear glass of the shower door also allows the eye to see the entire space, giving the appearance of a larger room.

A false wall behind the toilet allows the cistern to be concealed, and provides space for a symmetrical niche. The niches are lined with mother-of-pearl tiles to add an air of glamour to the space, and lighting within the niches, on a separate circuit from the ceiling lighting, creates a sexy atmosphere. A bespoke built-in cabinet above the new towel heater provides more than enough storage, and placing the cabinet above the towel heater maximises the space available.

The soft grey colour scheme blends with the client’s bedroom, and traditional style taps, cabinet knobs and towel heater maintain the classic feminine style of the apartment.

So there you have it, a huge transformation to a small space!
